How do I spend two hours a week?

Here are just a few suggestions to get you started:

  • Miniature golf
  • Go to Paneras and bring a board game
  • Roller-skating or rollerblading
  • Ice-skating
  • Bowling
  • Bicycling
  • Batting cage and go-carts
  • Driving range (Give any boy a club and he will hit a ball when it pops out of the ground.)
  • Then graduate to par 3.
  • Hiking or Nature Walks (trails in State Parks)
  • Playgrounds, parks or beaches (these are also great in the winter)
  • Fishing
  • Swimming
  • Basketball
  • Tennis
  • Handball or racquetball
  • Throw a ball around or play Frisbee
  • Various events at Jones Beach or Robert Moses
  • Arboretums: Planting Fields, Bailey’s
  • Feed Ducks
  • Go to the docks or fishing piers
  • Go Crabbing
  • Picnic
  • Manicure/Pedicure
  • Aquarium
  • Planetarium
  • Museums
  • Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery
  • Historic places such as Teddy Roosevelt’s House
  • Lighthouses
  • Art Exhibits
  • Plays or other cultural events at local venues (i.e. Staller Center or Tilles Center)
  • Art & Craft Centers
  • Library movies and events
  • Bake cookies
  • Mall—window shopping- (After spending a couple hours window shopping, one young girl asked her Mentor why they did not buy any windows.)
  • College Sporting events
  • The Circus
  • Visit animal shelters or pet stores
  • Garage or yard sales
  • Train or Ferry Ride

If you have an interest, get the child involved in it. There are as many activity potentials as there are mentors.
